The greatly-admired Albanian-born guitarist Admir Doçi here presents a beautifully-recorded selection of music for guitar ranging across the centuries: pieces from the 16th-century Fantasia X by Luys de Narvaez to the 21st, with the premiere recording of Martin Schmidt’s important suite Memorias, a work in eight evocative movements, lasting in total for around half-an-hour. Throughout this attractive and stylish programme, Admir Doçi proves himself to be a guitarist of the very front rank, and the recording, made earlier this year, is of very high quality. Excellent and authoritative booklet notes complete this important release.
