The vocal chamber music by Bellini (which amounts to a restricted number of works, most of them recorded in the present CD) is characterised by very refined traits, just like the best melodramas by the Sicilian composer: they are brief compositions, but contain fine music. After the success of the CD dedicated to Vivaldi's Cantatas CDS 222, Marco Lazzara, one of the world's most appreciated counter-tenors, tackles these songs with great technical and interpretative wisdom. In the present performance, which includes four songs in world première recording (*), Lazzara preferred a simple style of interpretation, purified from performance practices, vocal procedures and "traditions" that not always befit the musical discourse nor are they justified by the pieces' musical structure.
