Today, after many decades during which we have admired Moniuszko’s masterpieces in the field of opera and song, we increasingly reach for his sacred works, finding in them undiscovered beauty. Moniuszko’s output of sacred music comprises some 90 works – mass cycles and individual parts of the mass, litanies, psalms, hymns and motets. The composer genuinely cared for the introduction of Polish liturgical music into the church. He was convinced that Polish music, responding to the needs of a Catholic nation, would strengthen the religiousness of Poles
