Both the Symphony No. 7 and the Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra are extended, three-movement works for large symphony orchestra. After a series of pieces of gentle soundworld and refined timbre, in which the orchestra was treated as a rich palette of subtle colours, such as Cello Concerto No. 2, Violin Concerto No. 2 and Clarinet Concerto (DUX 0594), as well as Farewell Music, in these two works Meyer used the orchestra primarily to build symphonic narration of great emotional intensity. |
