Disc No: CYP7609 The Orchestre philharmonique de Liège and Cypres have launched a collaboration with the aim of featuring young talents who are more than just promising. After Lalo’s Symphonie concertante (CYP7608) performed by David Cohen – who has since become first cello solo of the Philharmonia of London – here are the clarinet concertos (CYP7609) that are the consecration of the clarinetist Jean-Luc Votano – aged barely 23. While the Concerto in A major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a well-known perennial hit, two exhilarating works complete this disc: the First Concerto in F minor by Weber conjures up the unsettled mists of early German Romanticism, while Rossini’s Introduction, Theme and Variations is a worthy creation of the dizzy, frisky spirit of its genial father.
