Symphony no.3 was premiered on 15 January 1904. A musical image of the seasons of the year, it is so permeated with a Polish flavor that one cannot help comparing it with Wladyslaw Reymont’s novel Chlopi which was written at the same time and was based on the same concept. By extolling the Polish countryside and customs Noskowski could express his patriotic sentiments in a form that did not provoke the Tsarist censors.
In later years Noskowski contributed in developing the cult of Chopin. One of its manifestations were the ‘fantasy image’ From the Life of the Nations, a slightly oblique set of symphonic variations on Chopin’s prelude in A major op. 28 no.7.
