Widor - Symphonies opus 13

Price: Sek. 160
The choice of a hot-air balloon for the cover art of this recording is a reference to ‘Soar above', the motto that appears in the published edition of the Symphonies op. 13. Widor was simultaneously alluding to his descent from the Montgolfier brothers on his mother's side of the family and stating his vision of what the modern organ should be: symphonic in scale and of dimensions that should go beyond the limited horizons of everyday life and its banality. Widor's ideas are characterised by a transcendent perspective and were strongly influenced by the Gothic Revival; the organ would be the symbol of progress and of universal spirituality.
