Sometimes the pilgrims who were holding vigil in the church of the Holy Virgin of Montserrat wanted to sing and dance, but they were only allowed to sing respectable and pious songs. Such is the introduction provided by an anonymous hand on the several pages of music contained within the famous mediaeval manuscript in the Abbey of Montserrat. In this realisation by the Millenarium ensemble, the pilgrims (the Namur Chamber Choir) are greeted by the monks (Psallentes) and the choirboys (Les Pastoureaux) of the Abbey. Their songs blend with the sounds of the various instruments that lead them into the dance.
