Disc No: GH 2328 The Italian conductor Guido Cantelli was 36 years old when he was killed in a plane crash near Paris in November 1956. His death claimed the life of one of the greatest musical talents to have emerged in Europe since the end of World War II, a man who was regarded by Toscanini as his natural successor. Because of his early death Cantelli made few commercial recordings, but there are a number of very important surviving broadcasts, especially from his time in New York, which are now much sought after by collectors all over the world. Guild is very pleased to be able to offer, on this well-filled new CD, a representative selection from these broadcasts, featuring the New York Philharmonic and NBC Symphony Orchestras. The sound is very good, and the performances are filled with the Cantelli magic which made his deathje such a tragic loss
