The Perfect

JOHANN STRAUSS (1825-1899)
Johann the Younger, a remarkable violinist, had learned harmony with the cathedral organist but was not to persevere with religious music. At 19, he created an orchestra to rival that of his father and obtained a triumph (in 1844) in the well-to-do suburbs of Vienna: The war of the waltzes could have rebounded, but Johann the Elder recognized that "good (Viennese) blood could not lie" and, from then onwards, Johann the Younger was able to compose, without always being able to satisfy the demand of a public that had been won over by his music
