In March 1940, barely 29 years old, Jussi Björling was recorded live at the Stockholm Opera in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette together with some of the very best Swedish singers of hid generation: the soprano Hjördis Schymberg, the bass Leon Björker and the world famous Wagner-baritone to be, Sigurd Björling. Though earlier excerpts this recording already has legendary status, with the young Björling in supreme form in one of his best roles at the time (he left it for good in 1950, when he thought himself to old). Here at last is to be heard the complete Swedish radio recording, cleaned from the worst skratches but otherwise left sonically untuched.
